AI in Finance: From Automation to Cognitive Leverage
Dear IMA Switzerland Chapter Members and Friends,
In finance, AI is proving most valuable not as an automation tool, but as a cognitive amplifier for professional judgment. In daily work, AI already supports how finance leaders think, learn, and decide.
Practical applications are emerging quickly: AI summarizes complex meetings and decision forums into structured actions and risks; Copilot in Excel accelerates onboarding into unfamiliar datasets by explaining drivers, testing scenarios, and structuring analysis; domain‑specific AI agents support recurring finance tasks such as variance investigation, management reporting drafts, policy interpretation, or consistency checks across documents.
For leaders onboarding into new roles, this matters. AI shortens learning curves—helping absorb context, decode acronyms, connect disparate information sources, and translate technical analysis into clear executive narratives. Time shifts from mechanics to interpretation, governance, and impact.
The opportunity for finance is not efficiency alone, but better decisions at speed, with accountability and trust intact. This evolution places professional judgment, ethics, and insight—not technology—at the center.
